One of the things that manufacturers never pay sufficient attention to is ensuring that everyone is working with exactly the same data, understanding the priorities and all pulling in the same direction to meet those priorities.

The control of centralised documentation is therefore as critical to the efficient and correct manufacture of any product as any other facet of building the product. The technical specifications of the quantities to be purchased, the last revision of the board, the engineering change orders must be well documented, as well as totally visible to those people in the organisation with a need to know.

Only a well controlled centralised, network accessible database,  which is well maintained can provide this facility.

Prima uses such a system for sales order processing, purchasing, ECN control, BOM generation, delivery and invoicing. This coupled with a bar code controlled tracking system, which gives centralised visibility to all involved in the process means that we know at any point in time what the status is of the kit, any shortages, which machines the build is scheduled on, in which order, which parts of the process are completed at any one time, the exact point at which time the product goes through each of the stages of manufacture, who the operators are working on the build, and when the job is ready for shipment.

Having such visibility at each stage is vital to meeting customers demands for quality and on time deliveries.
